Mike Nicolas is a 6-time Emmy Award-winning visual storyteller and proud HBCU graduate, currently serving on NBC Atlanta’s Special Projects team. A graduate of Norfolk State University, Mike earned his Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications with a concentration in Television Production. His journey from campus productions to national recognition is a testament to the power of perseverance, purpose, and the foundational excellence found at HBCUs.
At NBC Atlanta, Mike blends journalistic integrity with cinematic storytelling, earning his first Emmy at the station and collecting six in just two years. His passion for stories that matter has taken him from the frontlines of breaking news to producing powerful features that elevate voices too often overlooked.
Before joining NBC, Mike crafted compelling content for the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta and contributed to newsrooms at WXIA-11 Alive and WVEC-TV ABC 13. His earlier work earned him a Gold Telly Award and an Emmy nomination for standout feature storytelling.
Mike is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of Black media professionals, especially those coming from HBCUs. His mission is to inspire students to own their narrative, sharpen their craft, and walk confidently into spaces where their stories—and their presence—make an impact.
